SmallHort

The role of diversified small-scale horticulture in a transition towards more sustainable food systems with healthier diets

The aim of SmallHort is to explore how food systems based on diversified small-scale horticulture can be developed to become more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable while also increasing in scale. This will provide benefits to nature, environment and public health. It is a interdisciplinary project including both social science, economic as well as agricultural aspects of small scale food production.

NVIs role in the project is focussing on the food safety aspects relating to the risks of bacteria and fungal contaminations in the composting systems. The project coordinator is Anna Birgitte Milford, Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO).
